Truck Crane & Boom Truck Inspections in Illinois

Onsite lifting-equipment inspections for truck cranes and boom trucks at contractor yards, commercial facilities and dealer locations. Identify the crane and truck separately when requesting equipment and vehicle inspections.

Inspection planning for truck-mounted lifting equipment

Send the actual crane make, model, serial number and configuration along with the carrier or truck details. Truck cranes and boom trucks can use different boom, hoist and stabilization arrangements; the inspection is planned around the installed equipment and manufacturer requirements.

Service truck and mechanic truck cranes

Request inspections for cranes mounted on service trucks or mechanic trucks, including installed telescopic lifting equipment. Provide both crane and truck identification, mounting details and rated capacity. The crane inspection and truck DOT annual are separate scopes.

Components to discuss in the inspection scope

  • Visible boom structure, mounting connections and accessible pins
  • Applicable hoist, wire rope, hook and load-handling components
  • Outriggers or stabilizers and their operating condition, when fitted
  • Controls, safety devices and visible hydraulic components
  • Functional checks within the agreed scope and documented observed deficiencies

Share prior reports, known defects and any customer-specific inspection requirements. SFTI confirms access and the functional checks appropriate to the model and agreed scope before the visit.

Dealers welcome

Equipment dealers can request inspections for single units or a multi-unit inventory at a commercial yard. Send a unit-by-unit list, data plates, prior reports and availability windows. SFTI confirms the equipment inspection scope, documentation, scheduling and travel before booking.

What to send for your quote

Provide crane and truck identification, capacity, data-plate photographs, equipment quantities and the commercial yard address. Confirm the space available to set up and operate the equipment. State separately whether you need a load test, truck DOT annual or operator training.

Work directly with the owner

The owner personally provides SFTI inspection and training services. Discuss the equipment, visit plan and documentation directly with the person performing the work.

Does the crane inspection include the truck’s DOT annual?

The lifting equipment inspection and the truck’s FMCSA DOT annual inspection are separate scopes. Request both if needed. Load or proof testing, repairs and operator training are also separate requests; the quote identifies the work and documentation included.
